Holding Court: Mount Kisco's Restaurant Scene

What’s on the menu? While dining options have blossomed in recent years in Bedford and Pound Ridge, our neighbors in Mount Kisco are enjoying their own quiet culinary renaissance. Whereas Kisco has long boasted an international map of cuisine, a few visionaries are taking inspiration from the food-hall format, popularized by Oscar Farinetti’s Eataly, to invigorate the town’s palate anew. Among them is Bonnie Saran, owner of Little Crepe Street, Little Spice Bazaar, Little Kebab Station, and the soon-to-open Little Drunk Chef, a bar-restaurant that will mirror her funky collective of establishments from across Main Street. Saran sees in food halls a way to celebrate street-food culture in two of the great culinary capitals of the world, Paris and Mumbai, where a high-powered businessman and a construction worker might wait in line together for a crêpe or a tikka masala. While the friendly staff blends your fresh rose lassi or ginger citron mint iced tea at Little Spice Bazaar, you’ll be drawn to the fragrant free-trade spices for sale, displayed below their ancient remedial uses (Indigestion? Try Anise seed.). Going South on Main Street from Bonnie Saran’s Little empire is Belizzi’s, Isi Albanese’s family-favorite Italian spot. In July, Belizzi’s will re-open as Exit 4, a 4,000 square-foot food hall where Albanese plans on serving seasonally dependent farm-to-table goodies from a charcuterie, wood-fired pizza oven, bar with craft beers, and local wines, home-made pasta station, and Mount Kisco Seafood-operated raw bar, all around communal tables. So local foodies rejoice: with the ambitions of restaurateurs like Albanese and Saran, healthy, delicious food will continue making its way to your plate in Mount Kisco.
